Looking for a simple way to create multiple original images? Always wanted to print your own T shirts? Here’s your chance to try out new materials and techniques without having to buy a lot of unfamiliar supplies. Join Canadian artist Alanna Baird for a one day workshop exploring Lino printmaking with Caligo Safewash Inks. Alanna is primarily a sculptor, but has a passion for printmaking and is spending part of the winter on the island.

Using basic hand printing techniques you will cut your image into blocks, then experiment with colours, printing onto a variety of papers and cloth. The process of registration for reduction printing will be covered during the workshop. This simple technique can be used to create complex images from a single block. B&W images can be hand coloured using watercolours once they dry to create a variable edition. This workshop is open to both beginners and experienced artists.

Materials needed: small sharp chisels or Lino cutters (available in Hamilton for $11.95) and an easy cut Lino in your choice of size ($5 to $28) bring an assortment of your favourite papers to test, and even a T shirt if you want to try printing on that! We will have some interesting paper for you to try, including Thai rice paper and the printmakers favourite Masa. Water clean up Caligo Safe Wash Ink and Extender will be provided for use. All done without the use of a printing press so you can continue your explorations at home.

6″ x 6″

Last year’s  6 x 6 = $66 show was so successful that with your support, we would like to hold it again.

The date for this year’s show is March 19, and will open in conjunction with ‘Art of Craft’.  (3:30 – 5:00 p.m.)
* All art must be 6″ by 6″ (no larger/no smaller)  and we will be selling them for $66.  (Please note that originally we asked for 7×7 paintings but this is now revised to 6×6)
* We are asking for Artists to help by donating a 6″ x 6″ painting (of any media) on a panel/board.    We will be hanging the show by placing velcro on the back of the boards.   Please ensure that work is dry when submitted.
* If you do not have a panel/board, we are happy to supply you.
* The piece should not be framed or wired for hanging.
* If your piece is on watercolour, simply bring it in.  We will mount it onto a panel.
* Do you have to be a member to support the show ?   No.  Any and all work will be gratefully accepted.  If you can enter more than one piece we’ll be ecstatic !
* The deadline for work is Monday, March 13.
This fundraiser helps us to come out of a very long and hard winter season.   Your support is so important to us !
